It’s not the scene of vultures preying on a carcass as a tumble weed rolls past cacti, nor a beach ball bouncing off an outstretched hand in a crystal blue pool, that comes to mind Somewhere, somehow, these two worlds met when the band created their concoction of dirty folk and feel good anthems.
Established in 2013, this Johannesburg based band takes their vibrant performance across South Africa. They’ve managed to play at any establishment, albeit pub, club or fancy grub. From battling the winds of the Western Cape, to beating through the lush jungle of KwaZulu-Natal, this band is no stranger to festivals or corporate events. Not only have they been through many different members before anchoring on their current sound.
Frankly, people see Jerry vigorously jolting around on stage as a one-man band short of a monkey, when in fact he has three. “The Bandits” accompany the singer with a variety of musical instrumentation , vocal harmonies, immense energy, and bad one liners.
The band is:
Jerard (Jerry) Quaintmere – Guitar, bass drum, tambourine, and lead vocals.
Jason Chadinha – Guitar, harmonica, ukelele, percussion, and backing vocals.
Kirstin Walters – Saxophone, clarinet, and backing vocals.
Geraint Boje – Bass guitar and backing vocals.
In 2015 the band released their first EP, Ghosts. After seeing its success, they followed with their second EP, Fiction in Folktale, in 2016. The name of the EP could not have been chosen any wiser, as they convey beautiful life lessons via melodic storytelling, and staying true to the folk elements.
